Essay Topics

Essay TopicsSince the Victorian era, essay topics have taken on many shapes and forms. Although more than one variety of essay has become popular in this century, they all continue to fall under the categories of serious, formal, and informal. At first glance, it is easy to classify Victorian essay topics by these labels, but the truth is that every essay may be better suited for one or another, depending on the intended audience and writing style. The Vikings are known for their short attention spans. That is probably why the writers of the early twentieth century often found themselves writing what was termed a 'short' essay. By the twentieth century, such essays were still being published.Writing a short essay can actually prove rather time consuming. In contrast, a longer, more involved essay can take longer to complete. The style varies quite a bit between essay subjects. Formal essays may be written in plain and simple language. Formal essays might be written in formal and academ ic prose.Essays for high school students may often be written in an informal style. Essays for college students, however, are often written in an academic style, especially when they are required for a course. Writing an essay for a student might require an entirely different style of writing from a shorter essay for a teacher. It might also be necessary to write an informal essay for an older relative who is not well versed in modern speech and writing. Not all people use language and writing conventions of today. These people might appreciate learning how to use the proper language in writing an essay that would make sense to someone who is a generation older. In other cases, the essay's subject matter could become irrelevant to the writer's own opinions. For example, if the subject matter of the essay is a political issue, the writer may wish to include a personal opinion about a particular political candidate in the essay. If the essay does not directly deal with politics, the wri ter should take pains to keep the essay current and relevant to its subject.Essay topics can be classified as formal, informal, or academic, but no matter which category the essay falls under, the essay should be written according to the writer's writing style. It might even be necessary to consider the current themes of the literary genre in order to write a better essay. The goal is to tell a good story.
